Welcome To The Fox & Hounds
Take a walk on the wild side
We are a traditional Lakeland Inn located in the beautiful Lakeland Valley of Ennerdale approx 1.5 from Ennerdale lake. Situated in the centre of the village opposite the church and over one of three small bridges in the village, we have three comfortable spacious en-suite bedrooms, a large secluded beer garden and a cosy bar with two welcoming log fires. An excellent selection of local ales and offer hearty traditional pub food cooked on the premises from locally sourced ingredients.
We are currently featured in the CAMRA good beer guide 2015
As the first stop on Wainwrights famous coast to coast walk we welcome walkers and cyclists and are very family friendly, as Cumbria has more dogs per head of population than anywhere else in the UK we not only welcome dogs we actively encourage you to bring your dog with you. Dogs are welcome in all areas our Inn (except of course our kitchens). They are even welcome in any of our three bedrooms if you are spending the night with us.
Although located only 10miles from the historic towns of Whitehaven and Cockermouth our valley location, lack of mobile phone signal and public transport limited to one small bus per week, gives our village the impression of being extremely remote. This remoteness made us the ideal location to allow an area of the National Park to be allowed to develop with minimal interference from man and farming. This area is known as Wild Ennerdale, with an open access policy to walkers.
